LinuxWorld Conference & Expo Adds the ”Enterprise Grid Solutions Showcase” to Event Lineup
FRAMINGHAM, MA – March 15, 2006 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for technology markets, today announced that it has expanded LinuxWorld Conference & Expo(R) to include the first-ever Enterprise Grid Solutions Showcase, sponsored by the Enterprise Grid Alliance (EGA) / Global Grid Forum (GGF) in conjunction with Intel Corporation and other industry leaders. The EGA/GGF organizations collaborate with the industry to champion architectures, specifications and best practices that will enable the pervasive adoption of grid services for business, engineering and science worldwide. The new showcase will offer LinuxWorld attendees a first-hand look at the business value of Grid technology. The Enterprise Grid Solutions Showcase will be unveiled at LinuxWorld in Boston, scheduled to take place April 3-6, 2006 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.
The Enterprise Grid Solutions Showcase will provide attendees with practical information and best practices into the successful approaches for applying Grid solutions within their own enterprise IT environments. The Enterprise Grid Solutions Showcase will demonstrate how Grid, virtualization, resource sharing, automation and service-orientation, can help to solve real-world challenges quickly and cost-effectively; as well as demonstrate how to integrate and share information more efficiently, and enable a more flexible and dynamic relationship between business and the underlying IT infrastructure resources.
"As Grid Technology gains momentum and becomes broadly adopted by mainstream businesses, IT professionals need to sort through the range of options available to them in order to make the right tactical decisions for their business today," said David Korse, president & CEO, IDG World Expo. "The Enterprise Grid Solutions Showcase is the ideal place for IT professionals to learn about the unique technologies, products and expertise that Intel and its partners have to offer in helping organizations use industry-standard Grid technologies in a practical, step-by-step approach to implement these emerging IT infrastructure models for the benefit of their businesses."
The Enterprise Grid Solutions Showcase will feature four areas that showcase the growing Grid ecosystem of solutions and standards. Key areas include:
— Enterprise Utility Computing (EUC) proof of concept (POC) – describes the major components of EUC compute and management infrastructure, and demonstrates how grid, virtualization and grid-enabled enterprise applications provide the necessary foundation for robust and agile business services such as BI, ETL and data mining. This POC illustrates how compute resources, both physical and virtualized, can be provisioned on-demand to address and satisfy an organization's service level and IT policy requirements. Participating vendors include Intel, Platform Computing and SAS.
— The IBM(R) Grid and Grow(TM) Offering – provides an easy to deploy, integrated solution for customers interested in beginning the grid journey, helping them maximize the benefits of grid computing by leveraging their existing investment while laying the foundation to expand to more robust implementations as they are ready.
— The Power of a Data Fabric (GemStone Systems) – Showcases the benefits of using a distributed data fabric or a data grid to enhance performance and scalability of transactional and computational grid applications.
— Grid Standards and Industry Consortia – Standardization of Grid technology is being driven by the Enterprise Grid Alliance (EGA) and the Global Grid Forum (GGF) who recently announced an intent to merge and are working closely together to accelerate adoption of grid. EGA and GGF are collaborating with the industry to champion architectures, specifications and best practices that will enable the pervasive adoption of grid services for business, engineering and science worldwide.
In addition to the Grid demonstration and discussion areas, the Enterprise Grid Solutions showcase will feature a live presentation theater to promote the unveiling of a new book from GRIDtoday publisher, Tabor Communications, titled, "The Emergence of Grid & Service-Oriented IT: An Industry Vision for Business Success."
Organizations participating in the presentation theater include:
— BEA Systems
— Data Synapse
— Enterprise Grid Alliance (EGA)
— Gemstone Systems
— Global Grid Forum (GGF)
— Platform Computing
— The 451 Group
"Grid technology has already proven to deliver significant ROI and reduce total cost of infrastructure ownership for many early adopter markets such as financial services, electronic design and life sciences just to name a few," said Robert Fogel, director of business development and strategy, Intel Corporation. "The Enterprise Grid Solutions Showcase will help LinuxWorld attendees understand the value of Grid technology and see for themselves how to apply currently available solutions to solve real business problems."
