Linuxworld Conference & Expo Sold Out! San Jose Event Reaches Capacity As Linux Momentum Surges
FRAMINGHAM, MA – JUNE 28, 2000 – IDG World Expo, the world’s leading IT event-management company, today announced that exhibit space for its popular LinuxWorld Conference & Expo is sold out. This marks the fourth-consecutive show LinuxWorld Conference & Expo has sold out at more than 150,000 square feet. Forty companies remain on a waiting list for the event, scheduled for August 14-17, 2000, despite a 60% increase in expo floor space this year.
"Linux is red hot, and we’re tickled pink," said Charlie Greco, IDG World Expo president and chief executive officer. "Linux is ‘top-of-mind’ for everyone in the industry today, and for good reason. Recent events have propelled Linux and the open-source software movement to unprecedented heights. We are delighted to convene the premier event for the growing Linux community."
IDG World Expo also indicated today that it must relocate the next West Coast LinuxWorld event, scheduled for August 27-30, 2001, to San Francisco to accommodate the rapidly growing number of exhibitors and attendees. According to Greco, “We are doing everything we can to accommodate the waiting-list companies this year, but we’re simply going to need more space next time.
This largest-ever LinuxWorld Conference & Expo will feature over 160 exhibiting companies, more than 50 Linux educational sessions as well as a presentation by Linux creator Linus Torvalds of the $25,000 IDG/Linus Torvalds Community Service Award for excellence in the open-source software movement.
Michael Dell Among Leaders to Address an Impressive Audience
IDG World Expo announced earlier this month that Michael Dell, chairman and chief executive officer, Dell Corporation, would serve as the opening keynote speaker.
Attendees will comprise a large and impressive demographic cross-section of the industry. Approximately 70 percent of the registrants for the last LinuxWorld in New York City worked in the IT, Software Development or Finance professions. Attendees from around the world include:
· Executive and CEO-level leaders
· IT/MIS/IS management decision-makers
· Corporate, Financial and Product management decision-makers
· Venture capitalists, analysts and media
· Linux and UNIX users
· Service providers
"LinuxWorld Conference & Expo delivers a very appealing demographic," Greco said. "Seventy percent of attendees at the sold-out New York event in February said they wanted to purchase Linux tools and services, while 90 percent said they were interested in buying servers and infrastructures."
Greco added that fully 85% of attendees in New York said LinuxWorld was well worth the time and money and that they’d recommend it to a colleague.
"The New York event also helped thrust Linux onto Wall Street, and we’re now seeing much-greater interest in the San Jose show from investors. We deliver high-quality attendees to the exhibit floor. These purchase decision makers and financial professionals are ready to talk, and ready to do business," Greco said.
Michael Dell will be joined at the fourth LinuxWorld Conference & Expo by other luminaries, including Ransom Love, president and chief executive officer, Caldera Systems; Joel Birnbaum, chief scientist, Hewlett-Packard Company; Patricia Sabga, CNNfn anchor; and Nicholas Petreley, contributing editor of LinuxWorld Magazine and InfoWorld. IDG World Expo announced in April that Petreley would host a live, first-ever 'Linux Geek Bowl' at the event.
Linux Certification: Another LinuxWorld First
IDG World Expo also announced last month that free 'Boot Camps' and testing for Sair Linux and GNU Certified Administrator (LCA) Level will be offered for the first time at the upcoming LinuxWorld.
With a value of $5,100, the Boot Camps and testing are offered free to LinuxWorld Conference attendees who register by July 14th.
Greco added, "We have listened hard to the Linux community, and we continue to deliver features and benefits that they want and need. That’s another reason why the event has sold out. Now, we invite everyone to attend and to experience the world of Linux up close and personal."
