LinuxWorld Conference & Expo Expands with the Addition of ”OpenSolutions World” Conference to Event Lineup; New Conference Broadens Event to Represent the Entire Linux and Open Source Community

FRAMINGHAM, MA – DECEMBER 12, 2005 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for technology markets, today announced that it has expanded LinuxWorld Conference & Expo(R) by introducing OpenSolutions World(TM), a new conference at LinuxWorld that is focused on the broader range of open source technology. OpenSolutions World will be launched at LinuxWorld in Boston, scheduled to take place April 3-6, 2006 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.

"The addition of OpenSolutions World will further broaden LinuxWorld's reach into the enterprise, while still embracing the Linux kernel and the projects that are the heart and soul of LinuxWorld," said Melinda Kendall, group vice president, IDG World Expo. "We are very excited about this new open source focus, and at the same time we are also enhancing the focus on Linux with more conference tracks for Linux developers, an expanded .org Pavilion(R) and the addition of the Invisible Linux Pavilion(TM) for embedded and mobile systems."

OpenSolutions World will allow LinuxWorld to better demonstrate the complete range of real-world solutions based on open source and Linux to forward-thinking technology buyers. OpenSolutions World will present high-level training from industry experts on security, interoperability, network management, applications, applications development, and virtualization and grid technology.

"Linux is now mainstream in the data center, so it makes sense to have an expanded event focused on enterprise Linux solutions and complementary open source technologies that co-exist with Linux," said Monica Kumar, Director, Linux Product Marketing, Oracle. "OpenSolutions World will enable IT decision makers and line-of-business managers to explore the wide range of enterprise-class open source solutions to help them achieve practical business advantage."

"This new focus will bring together under one tent the entire community of IT professionals working with Linux and open source," said Larry Augustin, chairman, VA Software. "Having one place where everyone can come together will only help further drive the successful adoption of Open Source based technology in the enterprise."

"As someone who has attended almost every LinuxWorld to date, the LinuxWorld conference has clearly evolved beyond just Linux," said Bill Hilf, Director, Technology Platform Strategy, Microsoft Corporation. "The addition of OpenSolutions World is representative of the state of the market today and will help customers take advantage of the available interoperable technologies of tomorrow."
