LinuxWorld Launches Worldwide Developer Conference; Technical Conference Program Will Meet The Growing Needs Of Open Source Developers

FRAMINGHAM, MA – MAY 17, 2001 – IDG World Expo announced today that the upcoming LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, taking place August 26 – 30 at The Moscone Center in San Francisco, will host the first Worldwide Developer Conference for developers of Linux and Open Source technologies. The Worldwide Developer Conference will focus specifically on the needs of application and technical developers.

Created in conjunction with the Open Source Development Network (OSDN), the Worldwide Developer Conference is ideal for developers of Open Source technologies looking to sharpen their skills. Attendees will participate in technical training and educational forums on Linux application design and development, delivered by some of the most influential and respected names in the Linux and Open Source communities.

The Worldwide Developer Conference will feature 17 tutorials presented by today's top Linux developers, including Guido van Rossum (Python), Rasmus Lerdorf (PHP), Wickert Akkerman (Debian), and Larry McVoy. Additional tutorial topics will include Perl, Embedded Linux, GNOME and KDE. The program will also feature more than 25 conference sessions focused on the most up-to-date developer practices.

"Finally there is a conference program designed specifically for developers," said Charlie Greco, president and CEO of IDG World Expo. "We've launched the Worldwide Developer Conference in response to a real need in the Open Source community for a conference program that addresses the technical needs of developers. With the help of the OSDN, we're bringing the community's most talented developers to LinuxWorld to share their expertise."

The Worldwide Developer Conference is scheduled for August 26 – 29, 2001 at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo. The Worldwide Developer Conference will run alongside the LinuxWorld conference program, which will address issues facing end-users, business professionals, educators, administrators, analysts and managers.
