LinuxWorld San Francisco Announces Call For Participation for First Ever ”Linux in the Channel” Session, Sponsored by CRN

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – MAY 30, 2006 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for technology markets, has announced that this year's LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in San Francisco will feature a first-ever conference session and networking mixer dedicated specifically to the Linux channel. On August 16 in San Francisco, join official media sponsor CRN and a cast of major Linux players to get the information you need to understand where the action is in the Linux channel, and how you can position your company to cash in on the opportunity.

At the event, AMD, IBM, Novell and Levanta will release the findings of the first major, objective study focusing on how solution providers are selling Linux solutions to mid-market customers. CRN Editor in Chief, Heather Clancy will lead an interactive panel discussion between these vendors and four major players in the Linux channel: solution provider CGI, IT distributor Ingram Micro, solution provider Fujitsu-Siemens, and Linux systems integrator Wild Open Source.

Following the education portion of the half-day event, Linux vendors will be invited to participate in an "Open Mic" session to formally introduce their solution(s) and channel program to the resellers in attendance. For vendors that wish to be considered for participation in one of the limited availability time slots, please email for more information. Free cocktails and a networking mixer will conclude the Linux in the Channel session at LinuxWorld.

"As with all disruptive technologies that emerge as dominant forces in the IT market, Linux and open source software have prompted vendors to work closely with Global 2000 companies and governments around the world. Subsequently, the channel is being prompted to support the Linux and open source software demands of small and medium businesses," said Stuart Cohen, CEO of OSDL. "The open source business model has proven to be profitable for vendors with big customers and the same will be true for the channel partners. LinuxWorld and CRN's timing for putting this session together couldn't be better."

"Novell is excited to participate in this event and contribute what we've learned thus far on Linux adoption in the channel," said Steve Erdman, Vice President and General Manager, Channels and Alliances. "I'm confident we'll gain even greater insights from this study that will help us to better enable our channel partners for success in meeting their customers' needs. The technology is sound. We need to ensure any outstanding barriers to adoption are removed."

"While enterprise Linux adoption has continued to skyrocket, still relatively little is known about how solution providers, distributors, integrators and other 'channel' members are evaluating Linux solutions," said Melinda Kendall, VP LinuxWorld Conference and Expo. "This half-day Linux in the Channel event has been developed to open the dialogue between the channel and the vendor communities to discuss where the Linux channel opportunity is headed."
