Macworld Adds Real Time Pricing to Online Product Reviews
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — OCTOBER 13, 2000 — Macworld today announced the introduction of Macworld's PriceFinder, a comprehensive pricing database incorporating feeds from the Apple Store as well as Macintosh resellers including MacMall, Macwarehouse, MacZone, Outpost, CDW, MacConnection, ClubMac and J&R Computers. Macworld's PriceFinder is being integrated into Macworld.com, allowing readers to quickly check accurate, current pricing and availability for products while consulting the independent reviews from Macworld's award-winning editorial team.
By including all tax and shipping costs, Macworld's PriceFinder is the only real time pricing service for Macintosh buyers. In addition, the most popular searches are cached to ensure that the information is quickly presented to readers.
"We're not just giving you retail prices or prices from only one reseller, Macworld is giving you a complete survey, in real time, of prices from all the top resellers of Macintosh products on the Web," said Lynn Heiberger, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Mac Publishing, L.L.C.
One access point for the real time pricing is on every review on Macworld.com. Located in the yellow summary box near the top of each review is a red button marked, "Real Price." By clicking this button, the reader is instantly taken to a results page within the Macworld PriceFinder which lists up-to-the minute pricing for the product. The reader then has the option to select a vendor of their choice for an immediate purchase.
"Macworld is the trusted source for ratings and information in the Mac market," stated Andy Gore, Macworld's Editor-in-Chief and Vice President of Content. "We could not offer online price comparisons until we felt they were truly comprehensive and represented what the consumer is actually paying for the product."
