Native XML DBMS Vendors Face Challenges Despite Strong Market Growth, IDC Says
FRAMINGHAM, MA – JUNE 20, 2002 – According to IDC, the XML database management software (DBMS) is expected to reach $284.3 million by 2006, representing a strong $44% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) during the 2001-2006 forecast period.
"Although the market is growing, native XML DBMS vendors have to quickly establish their competitive advantage and face the challenges from newly emerging XML DBMS solutions," said Susan Funke, research manager for IDC’s Information and Data Management service. "XML DBMS vendors need to show value that differentiates XML DBMS apart from RDBMS with XML support."
IDC believes XML DBMS vendors also need to continue partnering with major players in the Web Services market to capitalize on their native XML DBMS advantage. XML DBMS vendors continue to establish their niche in the ebusiness platform, which should grow steadily over the next five years.
IDC’s recently released Worldwide XML Database Management Software Forecast and Analysis, 2002-2006 (IDC #27315) presents the latest findings in the XML DBMS market including vendor profiles and performance, five year forecast, market overview, future outlook, and essential guidance for vendors participating in this emerging market.
