Open Source Product Excellence Awards Expanded for LinuxWorld New York 2003

FRAMINGHAM, MA – DECEMBER 10, 2002 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for IT markets, today announced new categories and criteria for the LinuxWorld Open Source Product Excellence Awards. Sponsored by OSDN and presented in conjunction with the UniForum Association, the Open Source Product Excellence Awards will recognize Open Source product and service innovations by LinuxWorld exhibitors.


The Open Source Product Excellence Awards will be presented at the upcoming LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, the premier event exclusively focused on Linux and Open Source solutions. LinuxWorld will take place January 21-24, 2003 at New York City's Javits Center.

By highlighting innovative products and services, the Open Source Product Excellence Awards will help LinuxWorld attendees identify new, cost-effective solutions for their businesses. For exhibitors, the awards are an opportunity to obtain significant, valuable exposure for their Open Source solutions, at the event as well as beyond.

The Open Source Product Excellence Awards are divided into ten product categories, representing major areas of innovation in the Linux and Open Source community. For the first time this year, Awards will be presented to the Best Front Office Solution, Best Cluster Solution and Best System Administration Tools. Other product categories include:

IDG World Expo and the Uniforum Association have also clarified the criteria used to evaluate entries for each product category to help exhibitors and attendees better understand the judging process. Outlined for each category are specific product characteristics, benefits and applications that the judges will take into consideration when selecting finalists and winners. This year, judges include Giga Information Group's Stacey Quandt, Slashdot's Jeff Hemos and Rob Malda, and UniForum Association's Alan Fedder and Bob Williams. Finalists in each category will be selected prior to the event, and winners will be announced in a ceremony held in booth #769 on the LinuxWorld show floor on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at 4:30 p.m.
