San Jose to Host LinuxWorld Conference and Expo August 14-17, 2000 at the San Jose Convention Center

FRAMINGHAM, MASS. – APRIL 10, 2000 – IDG World Expo, the world's leading producer of IT-focused conferences and expositions, today announced that the next LinuxWorld Conference & Expo will take place in San Jose, CA, August 14 – 17, 2000 at the San Jose Convention Center. This fourth LinuxWorld Conference & Expo is expected to be the largest since the event’s inception in 1999.

LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, San Jose will be a four-day event featuring nearly 50 sessions organized into the following six tracks: Kernel/Cluster, User Interfaces, Languages, Network Services/Serving, ASPs/DB/Authoring, and Business/Advocacy. Linus Torvalds, Linux creator, will present the $25,000 IDG/Linus Torvalds Community Award to an organization which embodies the essence of the free software movement.

The following industry luminaries will deliver keynote addresses: Michael Dell, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Dell Corporation; Ransom Love, President and CEO, Caldera Systems; and Joel Birnbaum, Chief Scientist, Hewlett-Packard Company.

An exciting new addition to the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo will be the “Linux Geek Bowl.” Two teams comprised of the most notable open source personalities will square off in a Linux trivia showdown. This live quiz show will be hosted by Nicholas Petreley, Contributing Editor of LinuxWorld Magazine and InfoWorld. Some of the contestants will include: Jeremy Allison, Samba; Larry Augustin, Founder, President, CEO, VA Linux Systems; Jon "maddog" Hall, Executive Director, Linux International; Ransom Love, President and CEO, Caldera; Bruce Perens; Eric Raymond, Internet Developer and Writer; and Bob Young, Chairman, Red Hat.
