Top Executives From Eli Lilly and Compaq To Keynote At BioITWorld Conference & Expo

FRAMINGHAM, MA – NOVEMBER 12, 2001 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for IT markets, today announced that Roy Dunbar, CIO of Eli Lilly, and Michael Capellas, CEO of Compaq Computer Corp. have been added to the keynote lineup at BioITWorld Conference & Expo. Dunbar and Capellas join Dr. Eric Lander, founder of the Whitehead Institute/MIT's Center for Genome Research, who will present the opening keynote presentation at the event. BioITWorld Conference & Expo will premiere at Boston's World Trade Center March 12-14, 2002.

BioITWorld is the first event of its kind to address the convergence of life sciences and technology, bringing together scientific and IT industry leaders to examine how technology is transforming the life sciences industry throughout the entire discovery and development process. BioITWorld's keynote lineup is designed to offer a well-rounded view of the state of this growing industry, with insights from the academic, pharmaceutical and OEM perspectives.

Dunbar will address the importance of technology to pharmaceutical companies in his keynote, "The Value of Information Technology in Pharmaceutical Research and Development." Dunbar will share strategies to reduce cycle times, minimize cost and optimize access and timeliness of information across the enterprise through the use of IT. His presentation will address applied knowledge management, data mining, clinical data management, and the challenges of organizational change management as a barrier and a lever to IT value realization.

Capellas' keynote, "Computing Power for the Post-Genomic Era," will address the growing requirements for computational performance and storage capacity as biologists move from the study and simulation of genes to that of proteins, cells, tissues, organs and, eventually, entire organisms. Capellas will discuss the challenges and opportunities in biocomputing and bioinformatics, as well as key technologies that will support public and private research and scientific breakthroughs.

"We're certain that BioITWorld attendees will learn valuable lessons from the experiences of Eli Lilly and Compaq, and also benefit from their strategic recommendations," said Charlie Greco, president and CEO of IDG World Expo. "BioITWorld's focus is the convergence of life science and technology, so it was important for us to bring together leaders from both the scientific and technology communities to offer their perspectives on this exploding industry."

Rounding out the BioITWorld Conference & Expo schedule are two symposia. The first, "A State of the Market Address," will be presented by Deb Goldfarb, group vice president of Worldwide Server Research at IDC. BioITWorld will also feature a second symposium, "Building an IT Infrastructure for a Life Sciences Organization," chaired by Dr. Caroline A. Kovac, general manager of IBM Life Sciences. Dr. Kovac will be joined by panelists Dr. Shawn Green, chairman and CEO of LabBook; John Murphy, CIO of Curagen; and Manuel J. Glynias, president and CEO of Netgenetics.
