Top Integrated Collaborative Environments (ICEs) Vendors Keep the ICE Flowing, According to IDC

FRAMINGHAM, MA – JULY 23, 2002 – The integrated collaborative environments (ICEs) market for corporate messaging and collaboration is expected to hit $1.57 billion in revenue by 2002, a slight decline from the prior year. Total ICE users worldwide will jump from 210 million in 2001 to 240 million worldwide in 2002, according to IDC.

 

"Integrated collaborative environments have dominated corporate messaging and collaboration for the past five years. The degree to which this will still be true five years from now will depend on how well ICE vendors address customers' emerging needs in the areas of wireless/mobile access and Web services, as well as the ongoing need to reduce the total cost of ownership," said Mark Levitt, vice president of IDC's Collaborative Computing program. The results of IDC's analysis of the top three vendor performances in 2001 worldwide are as follows (in alphabetical order):

IBM (Lotus Domino/Notes) – #1 in revenue and ability to gain share (IDC Leadership Grid)

Microsoft (Exchange/Outlook) – #1 in new users, total users, and market opportunity alignment (IDC Leadership Grid)

Novell (GroupWise) – #3 in revenue and ability to gain share, as well as in new users, total users, and market opportunity alignment (IDC Leadership Grid)
