UK Biometricsworld Executive Conference to Address Implementation of Biometrics For European Border Security

NEW YORK and FRAMINGHAM, MA — JULY 22, 2003 – International Biometric Group (IBG), the leading biometric consulting firm, and IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for technology markets, today announced the launch of the first UK BiometricsWorld Executive Conference on biometrics and travel documentation. The BiometricsWorld Executive Conference will take place 3-4 September, 2003 at ExCel in London's Docklands.

The two-day BiometricsWorld Executive Conference will include presentations from senior representatives of government agencies and industry experts from around the world who are involved in the implementation of biometrics for travel documentation and border security.

The second in a biometrics conference series presented by IBG and IDG World Expo, this BiometricsWorld Executive Conference targets decision-makers responsible for travel documents, border control and visa issuance; policy influencers from government agencies worldwide; and representatives from technology integrators and vendors who seek a better understanding of the plans and opportunities regarding biometrics and travel documentation.

This conference follows on the heels of the sold-out inaugural U.S. BiometricsWorld Executive Conference, which took place in early June in Washington, D.C. Nearly 200 professionals from the public and private sectors representing nine countries gathered to obtain critical updates and recommendations for implementing biometrics for travel documentation and border security.

IBG Director of European Operations Kush Wadhwa will deliver the opening keynote address, "A Global Perspective on New Standards, Technologies and Applications." In his presentation, Mr. Wadhwa will put into context the global biometric border entry/exit projects currently underway and examine the key challenges that lie ahead for implementation of biometrics in travel documentation.

The conference agenda will feature prominent speakers presenting a series of panel discussions, roundtables, sessions and case studies covering:

The European Union's perspective on the use of biometrics to protect international borders

Lessons learned from recent pilots of biometrics in travel documents in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, theNetherlands and other countries

U.S. VISIT program update and implications for U.S. Visa Waiver program countries

Significance of privacy concerns on biometrics and travel documents

Updates on standards for biometrics in travel documentation from the International Civil Aviation Organization

Australia's SmartGate Program

The UK Iris Project

Among the expert speakers at the BiometricsWorld Executive Conference will be Frank Paul, head of the Large-scale IT Systems Unit for the European Commission. Mr. Paul's talk will focus on the European Union's perspective on the use of biometrics to protect international borders.

"Effective integration of biometrics into border security requires a tremendous amount of international cooperation," said Mr. Wadhwa. "To date, there have been few adequate venues for government and industry representatives from around the world to discuss and evaluate plans to integrate biometrics into passports and visas. The BiometricsWorld Executive Conference on biometrics and travel documentation will provide a critical forum for international discussion and cooperation on this topic."
